The Art. The Technique. The Truth.

Welcome to the art blog—a space where I pull back the curtain and share more than just finished pieces.

This is where I talk: process, materials, inspiration, and the tangled journey of making art as a working artist. Sometimes it’s messy. Sometimes it’s cathartic. Sometimes it’s just me showing you how many layers it took to get a cloud just right. Here, I document what fuels each series—from cultural roots and political resistance to grief, dreams, memory, and the quiet power of nature. I believe that art doesn’t exist in a vacuum—it lives and breathes through the stories we carry, the tools we reach for, and the choices we make while creating.

You’ll find thoughts on medium shifts, how I build symbolism into a piece, behind-the-scenes breakdowns, and occasional deep dives into technique. Whether you’re an artist yourself, someone learning, or just someone who’s curious about what goes into a finished work, I welcome you into this part of the process. This blog is as much about transparency as it is about connection.

Thanks for being here—there’s always more to explore, and more stories waiting to be painted.

🎨 Studio Shifts & Creative Sparks: A Peek Into What I’m Working On

Right now, everything feels like it’s in motion~ and in the best possible way.

I’ve been diving headfirst into a fresh creative chapter, and while it’s been a little chaotic (and more than a little cramped), it’s also been exciting, fulfilling, and something I’ve wanted to share more openly. With the heat, things have moved more indoors. The garden is in a state of maintenance, pick the harvest... occasional fertilizing and weeding, but mostly just watering and harvesting. That brings me indoors, where a lot of my focus has shifted to.

🎥 From Paint to Pixels – Starting Video Content (Again)

I’ve started recording again~ this time for myself.

Back in college (and a bit during my day job days), I worked on video content, but this is the first time I’m doing it for my own creative practice. It’s both familiar and new, and oddly grounding. What began as a few quick process clips and behind-the-scenes moments has evolved into the beginning of something bigger: educational content.

I’ve started planning out art tutorials, course content, and video resources~ reaching back to the part of me that pursued art education as one of my degrees. It feels natural, like I’m circling back with more perspective, more experience, and a clearer sense of what I want to offer. Art education was always in the plans for ACI and me, but it's getting closer to becoming a reality now.

🎨 Swatching a New Paint Palette

One of the simple joys lately has been swatching a new palette of watercolor paints—testing out pigments, building mixes, and re-familiarizing myself with the subtleties of each color. It’s a meditative process, and a foundational one too, especially as I work toward more structured painting sessions and video breakdowns. There is something so wonderful in feeling the paint come to life when the water touches it. The texture, the peacefulness...

It’s also a reminder that even in a digital age, analog rituals still root us.

🏠 The Office Studio... That I Immediately Outgrew

I also remodeled my upstairs office into a 2D studio last year~ fresh paint, organized supplies, new desk layout, shelving system, the works. It felt great. It felt right.

And I outgrew it almost immediately. 😂

Between the ongoing watercolor work, filming, and the course content prep, the space is now less of a studio and more of a strategic puzzle. But that’s part of the journey, isn’t it? Learning how to adapt, shift, and make the most of what you’ve got. I’m figuring it out, one paint-splattered day at a time. Let's just hope I don't outgrow this space immediately again.

🌊 Watercolors in Progress

Amid all of this, I’m still making daily progress on my watercolor pieces. Some are standalone, some part of growing series collections, but all of them are helping me stay grounded in what I love: telling stories through color, line, and atmosphere.

There’s more in the works, of course~ there always is, but I wanted to share a little of what’s happening behind the curtain. If you’re curious, you’ll be seeing more in the coming weeks as I finalize educational video content, share some time-lapses and process posts, and keep painting my way forward.

As always, thank you for being part of the journey~whether you’re an artist, a student, or just someone who loves to watch the process unfold.

With gratitude and paint-stained fingers,
Hansheng~
